AQUAPOL was established in 2002 and is fully dedicated to enhancement of safety and security on Europe’s main inland waterways as well as in the maritime domain. AQUAPOL aims at prevention of risks by improvement by enhancement of cross-border law-enforcement cooperation.
Aquapol is a network of 18 states with 27 organisations through Europworking by régional HUBS (4) ; HUBS are exchanging and coordinated via an Annual Council, where all members attempt once a year.
Twice a year, Hubs have coordination point meeting with Aquapol Management.
Since 2019 , Aquapol Management is under the responsability of the French « Gendarmerie Nationale » after 18 years ruled by the Netherlands Police.
To join Aquapol and be a member, applicants will follow various steps from the acceptance to full member, via partner or observer status.
Aquapol is receiving EU Funds from « DG HOME ».
Activities and Operations
Trends and programs are planned on a 2-year session submitted ,reported and updated in a Working Plan .
At the end of the session, a Report is established.
Main focuses on present sessions are :
- Law-enforcement on inland waterways and maritime areas for :
- Environmental control
- Illegal migration
- Cross boarder operations
- Common practices and trainings via an Aquapol Academy .
- Reinforcement of cooperation with other EU Police Groups : Railpol, …
All these activities are supported on the field by a « core tool » : AQUATRACK.
Aquatrack is a data website where all Aquapol members can report issued controls on the field and all tracked vessels are followed by installed AQUATRACK antennas all over Europe.
